This month, we wanted to take a moment to introduce the people behind Fresh Perspective Therapy, LLC.
As a team of social workers, our work is grounded in compassion, connection, and meeting people where they are. Each clinician brings their own path and perspective, and we feel grateful to support individuals and families in meaningful ways.
Kathleen Kern, LCSW-C - Owner & Therapist
Why was I drawn to Social Work? I wasn't initially. I thought about pursuing a degree in Accounting. I was pretty good at Math and thought that was the way to go. I spent time in my early 20s working in customer service and volunteering at the college I attended. I enjoyed the interactions with people and helping people. In undergrad, I started studying sociology, the study of groups, which eventually led me to social work.
I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many different people in different environments. I realize everyone has a story and a different outlook on life. Learning from clients helps me broaden my perspective and has helped turn me into the clinician I am today.
I love that I get to build connections with people over time and can help them make positive changes in their lives.
What I do to recharge outside of work is yoga, meditation, hiking, reading, writing, and caring for a house full of animals. I can't wait for warmer weather and look forward to reading outside.

Alyssa Gregor, LMSW - Therapist & Clinical Coordinator
I was drawn to helping people impacted by substance use long before I found social work. I remember learning about the effects of drugs and alcohol in middle school and feeling a strong pull to support people going through those experiences. For years, I would say I wanted to be a substance use counselor without really knowing what that path looked like.
That changed when a clinical social worker came into my life. Through her, I was introduced to the field of social work and immediately connected with its values. I was drawn to the way social work looks at the whole person and their environment, not just one piece of their experience.
Now, I feel grateful to do work with individuals facing substance use challenges, mental health concerns, and everyday life stressors. I hope that, in some small way, I am able to offer the same kind of support that once made such a meaningful difference in my own life.
To recharge outside of work, I love crocheting, napping with my pug (Teddy!), doing puzzles with my family, watching football, and going to the beach whenever I can.

Mahdi Rover - Student Intern
During my time in undergrad I always found myself having 1 on 1 "therapy" conversations with my peers and colleagues, never really thought much of it, just wanted to be a listening ear.
I had the opportunity to play Division III football at Salisbury University, in which I took the opportunity full steam ahead! At that time I switched my major to Social Work to finish out my undergraduate career. It was during the tail end of my undergraduate tenure that I realized my true calling! It was no longer about the salary or the notoriety. It was about my ability to impact the lives of others!
The joy I felt in my heart being able to assist those in need, from being a role model to at risk adolescents, and being a nurturing soul to infants and children, to lending a helping hand to the aging population! Social Work is home! And home is where the heart is.
To recharge outside of work I enjoy exercising, spending time with family, listening to and creating music, art, and poetry!
